How to study effectively
QUESTION:
Can you tell me how to study effectively?
ANSWER:
There are several steps you can take to improve your study skills so that you use your time effectively:
1. Pick an area of interest
There is nothing more frustrating than hating what you’ve chosen to study. You’ve probably heard the phrase, “do what you” with respect to your vocation/occupation. Well, the same applies to just about anything else in life, including your studies. For instance, if you’re premed, are your premed studies limited to chemisry, biology, and other science-based degrees? Not necessarily. While you will require core science courses to apply to medical school, there are programs you can take that combine such courses with other areas of study.
2. Go to class
By attending all our lectures, you will know exactly what your professor is focusing upon. It’s like cutting down your effort. You may be tempted to not attend at times, but just go anyway!
3. Hang with the smart students
They’re geared towards practicing good study skills and habits. That means, they will pick up on things that you perhaps miss and visa versa. It’s a great symbiotic relationshp!
4. Study everything the professor gives you
Whatever readings and/or handouts your professor gives you, be sure to understand the material inside out!
5. Figure out a good note-taking system that works for you
Loads of informaiton will be presented during lecture and it will be your job to capture everything that is relevant. Whatever method you choose, be sure you are able to move quickly and take notes without delay so that you are not only writing down everything but understanding at the same time. EasyGPAbooster has a great note-taking system to help you out with this if your’e interested.
6. Get help when you need it
There is only so much time available in a semester (and, it always goes by quicker than you can imagine). That means that you must ask for help when you need it. There’s nothing worse than trying to fix yesterday’s problems while working on today’s issues at the same time! Get help as soon as you need it.
