The College Student’s Guide to Note Taking For Maximum Learning
ARTICLE SUMMARY
This article talks about the importance of having a good set of college note taking skills to use in lecture and how learning occurs, through a specific exposure process.
If you were to rate all the different tasks that you pursue in an effort to get good grades and a high GPA, you will find that note taking skills rates as the highest. Why is this so? The way in which you take notes in college determines how successful you will be in your courses.
There is a standard that you must adhere to and most students fall short and fail to do what is truly required of them. There is a reason why there is a small group of A students that make up the top 5% of the class. Ironically enough, failing to do the required work when you are supposed to do it (spread throughout the semester) ends up only creating more work towards the end at exam time. Semesters (or, terms) are designed to feed students the required workload in small, manageable chunks. Similar to a time-release vitamin or pill, taking in your course work in small doses is more effective than taking it all in one major chunk – the mind just functions better with less of a load. Easy GPA Booster gets into more about this, but just know for now that while it may seem like a lot of work to do small bits daily, it is a lot more work to leave it until the end.
In my series of articles on note taking, I will discuss some key principles. In particular:
